Erin’s Letter Essay #10: “A Long Walk to Water”

I just finished reading “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park.  This book is 121a pages long. I read this book because it had a good story plot and it had an interesting name.

I decided to read this book because I loved the back and the cover page really interested me. Also I loved the first couple chapters I read.

A Long Walk to Water is a story about two people Salva and Nya and their stories take place in Africa. Nya story is about how she has to walk really far to get water it is a 6 hour trip there and 6 hour trip back. Nya has to get water for her family every day sometimes twice a day. But, there is some trouble because she has to dig to get some of the water, but the water isn’t clean enough to drink. Salva’s story is about how his village in Sudan is attacked and he has to run for his life to survive, and there are some tragedies that happen. In both of their stories there is great loss and suffering

This book was a quick and easy read. This book wasn’t hard but at times it plays with your emotions. So many times in the book I felt like I was gonna start to cry. The hard thing with this book is that it is just so sad and emotional at times.

“I am sorry salva”, Uncle said  quietly”Your friend..” Marial? Salva looked around. He should be some where nearby…I don’t remember if he slept near me-I was so tired-  perhaps he has gone to find something to eat- Uncle stroked Salva’s hair like if he were a baby. ” I am sorry,” he said again. A cold fist seemed to grip Salva’s heart.”

This paragraph shows the struggle of Salva and one of the many things he has gone through. These were one of the paragraphs that really upset me. I rated this book a 8 out of 10 because this book was really amazing. What happened to Salva is terrible but he still has hope.

Your friend,

Erin
