Divergent is a science fiction novel about a “perfect society” that is falling apart. The society is so perfect because everyone is split into five different groups-Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). All children are born into one specific faction (group) that their parents belong to. Once a year, all 16 year olds must chose for themselves, will they stay in the category with their family, or do they belong somewhere else. Beatrice, a girl who must have to make the decision for herself, is different than everyone else. She does not fit into one certain faction- but many- she is divergent and there are secretly others like her. All the divergents are ruining the perfect society and some people will do anything to get them removed!
