Jake’s Letter Essay #3:The Lightning Thief

I most recently finished reading Rick Riordan’s “The Lightning Thief.” Rick Riordan is also the author of one of my favorites along with this one “The Maze of Bones” which is one of the 39 clues books. I think Rick Riordan is a very great writer. One thing I noticed after looking at some of the other books he has written is that he loves to write about the gods and goddesses and the Titans. All of his books have something to do with this topic and I think that he should stick to writing about what he likes to write about because so far it’s worked out pretty good for him. I loved his books so much because it seems like he does research on the Greek mythology so he really knows everything that he needs to know about his topic. While doing this Rick puts In a lot of detail and it makes his writing really stand out to me. I would highly recommend his books and especially the Last Olympian series to anyone who likes Greek mythology and adventure.

Percy Jackson is a Demi God a half God half human and he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon. One thing, he has no idea what or even who he really is until he must escape the human world of dangerous creatures hunting and trying to kill him to camp half blood a camp with people exactly like Percy. He quickly starts trading for his first quest and finds out his true capability as a Demi God. Percy trains with his best friend Grover who was supposed to be a boy with a disease in his legs but all along he is just a half human half goat man trying to protect Percy and he’s done a pretty good job so far. These two along with their new friend Annabelle must take on dangerous foes in order to get to their final destination. Read book number one “The Lightning Thief” to find out what happens to the three heroes.

My favorite quote from the book is said by Percy in the beginning when he is figuring out what he is.”Being a half-blood is dangerous. It’s scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways.” I like this quote because of the way that he says it. It sounds like he is not scared but he is warning others to be scared of what is really happening. It’s like he is saying that it’s not just fun and games anymore it’s real life, no more joking around. It also reminds me of something my brother would say because he always says that he can do something that someone else can’t and he is always so confident so he just tells them to back off.
