Recently, I finished reading The Hunger Games, an 374-page dystopian literature book by Suzanne Collins. Suzanne Collins is an American television writer and novelist, best known as the author of the New York Times best selling series The Underland Chronicles and The Hunger Games trilogy. The Hunger Games is a #1 New York Times bestseller and has won many children book awards.

The Hunger Games is a story about a 16 year old girl named Katniss who lives in district 12 of a country called Panem, modern day North America, and is a ‘tribute’ in the 74th Hunger Games, where teens kill each other at the hands of the Capital to scare them from rebelling. She along with a 16 year old boy named Peeta, (another tribute from district 12) must fight 22 other tributes to win and return to their district.

I liked how the story was written in Katnissis perspective. I think it helps the reader connect with the character better because you know their emotions and what they are thinking and feeling.

I was surprised when the game makers allowed 2 tributes to win the Hunger Games, instead of just one. Then once Katniss and Peeta were the only two tributes left, only one tribute was able to win and right before they were going to kill each other, they both won the games. I was first happy that they were both going to win, then I was sad that one of them was about to die, but then I was happy again that they both won.

I was confused/sad/angry at the end of the book because most of the time during the games Katniss and Peeta were “in love” but when they get off the train, Peeta says just one more time for the audience and I was confused on if Katniss and Peeta weren’t really in love and they were just pretending to be the whole time.

Finally, I was interested in this passage, at the end of the book when Katniss and Peeta are getting off the train after winning:

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Peeta extend his hand. I look at him, unsure.
“One more time? For the audience?” He says. His voice isn’t angry. It’s hollow, which is worse. Already the boy with the bread is slipping away from me.
I take his hand, holding on tightly. Preparing for the cameras, and dreading the moment when I finally have to let go.

This passage makes me confused if Katniss and Peeta actually are in love or not because Peeta says one more time for the audience and Katniss is dreading the moment when she has to let go so I can’t wait to start reading the next book to see if they were really in love.

Overall this a fantastic book and I highly highly recommend reading it. Rate 9-10
