Casey’s Letter Essay # 3: [Book Title]

Dear Blog Reading Audience

I recently finished reading the book Si-cology by Si Robertson. The genre of this book is autobiography about the life and childhood of  one of the stars of A&E’s Duck Dynasty. Robertson has hunted for ducks since retiring  from the United States army in 1992. Si lives in Louisiana with his wife Christine. They have two grown children, Tessa and Scott, and 8 grand sons. I chose this book because I  enjoy watching the show duck dynasty. I wanted to learn more about the show and how it was made. I found the book very interesting because it was great to get to know Is behind the scenes of his character on tv.

Si claims that 95 percent of his stories in the book are truthful. I learned that every member of the Robertson family has a great gift of storytelling.  The stories are very funny.  He has sat in a duck blind for more than half of his life.  Many of the stories he likes to tell, happened when he was a young boy or when he was in Vietnam.  I wasn’t that crazy about the part in the book that talks about the Vietnam war.  I´m  not into war and didn’t enjoy reading about it.  I like to read about the funny and entertaining parts of Si´s life. The book was interesting because it presented Si in a different light. I learned that the main character was not as goofy and carefree as he is portrayed on tv. He is far from lazy, selfish, and crazy Uncle Si the character. In real life he has great love for his family.

In the book I noticed a lot about Si Robertson; for example, Si  likes to say “hey” a lot. “Hey” can mean anything. It can mean “yes,” it can mean “maybe,” and it can mean “no.” Hey, it could mean “next week.” The bottom line is, you have to understand “hey” to understand the language the book. I like the way the author introduced each chapter with a quote, that relates to him. For example. “Camouflage on anything is automatically cool” (ch.9) . This chapter was either about his hunting days or how he wears camo every time on his shows.  I love this passage because it gives the reader an idea of who Si Robertson is and how he is a great part of the Duck Dynasty show. I love this book because I can relate to the hunting aspect of it. This book reminded me of when I was 11 years old.  I learned how to shoot a gun like Si did in his book.  My uncle, who is an NYPD captain for emergency services, and is also hunter taught me at a very young age.

I rate this book a 10 out of 10.  People who like to hunt would really enjoy it.  There are more books out there about other characters in this show.  Iḿ going to try to get one of the other books to read also.  The next book I want to read in this series is Duck Dynasty family.  Looking forward to another good read.

Sincerely,

Casey

  1. I liked when you talked about how Si claims that 95 percent of his stories are truthful. He seems funny and I would like to hear one of his stories. Some advice I would give is to write more about what the book is about

  2. Casey! I really liked the content in this. I can tell you put a lot of effort into this. You knew a lot about the Duck Dynasty and put a lot of detail into each paragraph.
