The Promise

Did he forget his promise. Where is he, was he going to come home? I was scared he forgot. As I heard the door open I turned.
When I was eight years old my father made a promise that when he got home he would teach me how to play basketball. My dad always got home at 4:30, but today

“What time is it?” I asked.
“4:30,” my mom answered
My dad was never late.
His saying was “It’s better to be an hour early than a minute late.”
“Where is he?” I kept asking my mom “He’s never late.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“Fine.”
What if he forgot? I thought. I was scared he wasn’t gonna keep his promise. What if he forgot, or has to stay at work?
Now that I look back I’m not surprised he forgot, it wasn’t the first or the last time he forgot a promise, but i was hoping this time he did not forget.
“He will be home soon.” my mom knew I was worried.
As I saw my dad coming up the driveway I started cheering. When he came in he got ready. After he brought me to the basketball court and taught me how to play basketball. We played for hours.
I remembered how happy I was when my dad came home. I was happy when he taught me how to play basketball.
