Bio-Poem: Mr. Jockers

Ryan

Patient, honest, industrious, dependable

Son of Thomas and Linda, brother of Erin

Lover of life, family, and the changing of New England seasons

Who feels thankful at the start and end of every day, comfortable in his own skin, and blessed to be doing what he loves to do

Who finds happiness in the laugh of his children, his wife’s smile, and a small cottage by a modest beach in Old Saybrook, Conn.

Who needs a purpose, strong black coffee to complement quiet morning reflection time, and at least one hot cherry pepper with almost every meal

Who gives love and guidance to his children (Paige, who is 11, and Christian, who is 8), often too much of his time to his teaching and coaching jobs, and not enough attention to his 14-year-old dog, Kobi, a German shorthaired pointer mix (probably)

Who fears snakes, heights, and the direction in which the world is heading

Who would like to see his children grow up happy and have their own children, hummingbirds and butterflies converge upon the perennial garden he built for them in his yard, and a worldwide moratorium on social media

Who enjoys playing guitar (especially with a group of old neighborhood friends in a basement remodeled to resemble an Irish pub), playing chess, and fixing and building things at his workbench in his garage

Who likes to wear old, worn, soft cotton tee shirts and shorts at home, buttoned-down colored shirts with quiet ties when at work, and his black Adidas Copa Mundials on Sunday mornings

Born in Port Chester, N.Y., resident of Stratford

I am a middle-school language arts teacher in Connecticut. I like eating hot peppers from my garden, writing, and watching German soccer matches in the dark.
