Dear Readers,
I just finished reading The Hunger Games Catching Fire a 391 page book by Suzanne Collins. Suzanne Collins was born on August 10, 1962 in Hartford Connecticut and is an American television writer. She is the author of The Hunger Games series which I just read Catching Fire from the series. She had a husband who died in 2015 and she also have 2 kids. When Suzanne was little she was the daughter of an Air Force Pilot
I read this book because it was the next book up in the series which I plan on reading all the books in the series.
It’s been months since Katniss won the 74th Hunger Games which is an annual event in which each district in Panem sends one female and one male tribute to fight to the death for food and money. Though only one tribute can win the games but the games changed the rules which allowed Peeta and Katniss to win together. When the games ended Katniss gave up her pretended love for Peeta which she only pretended to for the sake of the games, but then since the games Peeta has been very distant from her and she felt guilty. When she returned home she found out that the President of Panem was waiting to speak to her. President Snow tells Katniss that she needs to convince Panem that she is still in love with Peeta or else the Capitol will go after her and Gale’s family which is another character in the book. President Snow said that if she can convince everyone that she is in love with Peeta then he will spare families live, but she gets help from her friend Haymitch and she says that in order to truly please Snow and Panem that she will have to marry Peeta.
Katniss is constantly searching to do the right thing even if it mean falling in love with Peeta or to decide to flee district 12 versus staying and resisting the Capitol’s reign. Katniss has been a great worker and a fighter. She struggles with her feelings for Peeta and Gale throughout the book, but she knows she is willing to die so that Peeta can live.
A quote from Catching Fire that I liked was “Yes, it’s great to have allies as long as you can ignore the thought that you’ll have to kill them.” (Page 329). Katniss said this quote because in the book she makes new friends named Finnick and Mags, but Katniss is aware that in order to keep Peeta alive he new friends must die which is painful for her.
I would rate this book an 8 because it was as good as The Hunger Games but it was still a good book overall so I thought to me it deserved an 8.

Good Summary and Introduction, John. Work on your Reflection: elaborate upon your thoughts and use textual evidence and include a passage of writing, not just a quote, and reflect upon what you liked about that passage of writing (look for author’s craft and other things we’ve talked about in class in terms of what makes good writing good). Try to enjoy Mockingjay. I couldn’t.

I liked your analysis of Katniss, and Peta. I haven’t read the books, but I have seen the movies, and as far as I know, I agree with your thinking. The link to the trailer supports some of your thinking. I do think that a quote from the book would of furthered our understanding of the book though.
