Bored at home

Today has been a boring day. School from home can be boring sometimes when you don’t have any friends to talk with. I got chicken eggs that I am going to take care of for the next 3 weeks or so, but then Lillian is getting chicks to keep, which I am excited for but I am happy that I don’t need to help Lillian with taking care of the chicks. I want to play with the chicks and not take care of them, but I will do that. Lillian can’t stop me from playing with her chicks, sorry that was very random.

I love going on walks with my dogs. It’s so fun to get out of the house and have some “me time”.  I like where I live because I live right next to a place to go walking. A lot of people are usually there but I will try to keep my distance when I am going on the walks. I went on a walk with Luna, my 2 year old sheepadoodle, and we saw horses and it was funny because she is afraid of them. Luna was also afraid of a smaller dog, like the dog was a quarter of the size (I am not sure what type of dog it was.) If someone were to ask me if I was a dog person or a cat person. I would say dog because I am allergic to cats.

I’ve been sleeping very well, better than usual. I’ve only been getting 8 hours of sleep every night. I want to sleep 10 hours but that is a lot of sleep and I like to wake up early to do stuff around my room. When I was younger , I went with my mom to crossfit at 5 o’clock in the morning, it was because my mom didn’t want me to wake up Lillian. I like to go to crossfit in the morning, I still do. I like to workout with my mom. She is funny.

My family does a lot together. We are a very athletic family. Lillian swims. Amber runs. Maxwell runs. My dad likes to bike. My mom likes to bike, run, and do crossfit. We all want to hike the Appalachian Trail. My parents keep joking with me that we are going to climb the trail while we are on quarantine because there aren’t a lot of people climbing the Appalachian Trail. I also want to be a 46er. It’s where you climb the 46 highest peaks in the Adirondacks. I’ve already climbed 2 of the 46. Dix (I have a funny story about what happened on this mountain, that I can tell tomorrow,or today) and another mountain that I forgot the name to.

I’m just going to tell the story now because I have the time.

This happened to be at Camp Chingachgook, a YMCA camp up in lake george. Last summer I went to the YMCA camp and I decided to go to camp over my birthday because they make birthdays a huge deal, we got two cakes, like two giant cakes. But that isn’t the story. I got to hike Dix North for a mini adventure trip, Lillian got Dix South.

It was the last day of the hikes, July 17th(my birthday). We finished hiking down the mountain, and it was drizzling. We got down to the bottom of the mountain an hour before we needed to catch the bus.  We were waiting in a circle playing cards, I think goldfish. It was still raining and I packed my raincoat at the bottom of my bag so there was no way that I was going to be able to get my raincoat.

2 hours past…

Still the bus didn’t come. I found a rock and we started to play rock soccer. 1 hour later we were still playing rock soccer but we decided to change it up since it was raining even harder. We decided to dance for the cars passing and you know how much I love dancing. But honestly it was better than staying still shivering.

The counselors that were on the trip had phones and they were trying to call people but we had no cell service. So it was just 2 counselors and 6 campers waiting for the bus.

Another 2 hours passed and we finally saw the bus. When I saw it, I cried with happiness. We got on the bus and we still needed to pick up 3 other groups, we picked up those groups and on the way back we stopped for pie. My group shared one whole pie… we devoured it. Two hours in the bus pass and we were finally at the camp. We got there 4 hours after we were supposed to. I got my food and ate it super fast then I went back to my group to see if I could help in any way and we finished unpacking in like 5 minutes. It was the best birthday ever!

Ok, I’m done for the day.

  1. I liked the story you wrote about camp. I bet the pie tasted good after waiting a long time in the rain.

  2. Thanks for the story and the blog post, Sydney. If you haven’t yet, you really should read Bill Bryson’s “A Walk in the Woods.” He’s a fantastic and funny writer, and it’s about this time when he decided to hike the AT without much experience and with a very out-of-shape friend. It’s a great book!
    Sincerely,
    Mr. Jockers
