Trans men should not be allowed in woman sports

Trans men should not be allowed to play womans sports.

“In 2019, about 2,500 men, almost one-third of the total number of men competing worldwide in the IAAF 100-meter event, beat the fastest women’s time. Without segregation, it’s not just that men would win — women would never even qualify for the competitions in the first place (NY Post, 2021).” Trans men should not be allowed to play in girls sports because they have an unfair advantage. They have way more testosterone than girls so therefore they oftentimes have more athletic ability due to their hormone levels. Testosterone can lead to many advantages in sports. This lends itself to women being at a disadvantage before they even start.

Medical News Today reported that “Prior to puberty, there is no sex difference in circulating testosterone concentrations or athletic performance, but from puberty onward a clear sex difference in athletic performance emerges as circulating testosterone concentrations rise in men because testes produce 30 times more testosterone than before puberty.” This is vital because testosterone production leads to faster muscle growth and “upon testosterone binding, the androgen receptor signals to the muscle cell to activate the pathways that trigger an increase in muscle mass, called muscle hypertrophy( Medical News Today, ).” Along with developing more muscles in a quicker time frame, testosterone leads to a quicker recovery. This is important because they can train harder and for longer periods  of time. Testosterone increases neurotransmitter which encourages tissue growth, it also interacts with nuclear receptors in DNA which causes protein synthesis.

`I read an article about Lia Thomas dominating in women’s swimming but biologically she was born a man. I was thinking to myself how is this fair? If I train my whole life as an athlete, you would hope that when competition comes, it is an even playing field. The NCAA has a complete policy outlining transgender student athlete participation is NCAA sports. Colleges not governed by the NCAA may have different policies. “The NCAA Board of Governors on Wednesday voted in support of a sport-by-sport approach to transgender participation that preserves opportunity for transgender student-athletes while balancing fairness, inclusion and safety for all who compete,” yet who makes these important decision? This is a problem in the world because it’s unfair for biological women and there needs to be a solution. In order to see change we can make a petition and try to reach out to as many people as possible. There is a change in numbers. Also, a clear policy for all will eliminate the uncertainty and inequality that is currently happening on a school by school basis. Why should people train for years and have their dreams ruined?
