Justin’s Letter Essay #4: The Eye of Minds

I’m halfway through reading the book “The Eye of Minds”, it is a 310 page science fiction book, written by James Dashner. I chose to read this book because I enjoy the author’s writing and the back intrigued me, Dashner usually doesn’t make summaries on the back, but instead questions or small details of important … Continue reading Justin’s Letter Essay #4: The Eye of Minds

This letter essay is about the 13th Reality : Void of Mist and Thunder, a book written by James Dashner the author of the Maze Runner series which is getting a 5th book in 2016. It is 483 pages long and is a mystery / science fiction book. This is the 4th and final instalment of the 13th reality series.

In this part of the book we are past Mistress Jane, Mr Chu from the 4th, and Tick’s escape from the desolate wasteland known as the Nonex. The Nonex as stated in the last essay is a place where you go when you met one of your alternates (twins  of you that went through different paths of evolution) but only one of the alternates go to the Nonex4th, he’s an alternate of Tick’s science teacher Mr Chu, the only difference is that the 4th is a reality where the whole world had their scientific revolution earlier than reality prime or the 1st reality. In the 4th Mr Chu became a world leader / inventor, he became drunk with the power he had gained and attempted to take over all the realities, this lead to him and the original Mr Chu to meet and sent the 4th Chu to the Nonex. Tick and Mistress Jane, the main protagonist and antagonist, were sent to the Nonex by using the power they had too much (this power is explained in the 11th essay). While escaping from the Nonex they tore into the 4th dimension which conveniently had a location between the Nonex and Reality which allowed them to get close enough back to reality to be pulled back into it. By visiting the 4th dimension they encountered the 4th dimension’s monster, the void of mist and thunder, it’s a cloud of mist that can not dissipate and it creates creatures / soldiers from the Mist, the thunder is the lightning the cloud can aim and shoot with. This monster has leaked into reality as a result of the excessive use of the realities power. Now Tick and Mistress Jane have to fight against and patch this leak while at the same time having to deal with Mr Chu as he is using the monster to aid him in his quest to conquer reality.

I like this book because of it’s complexness and it’s ability to come back together and make sense. An example of this would be the passage from page 246.

Tick, Mistress Jane, and Chu all join hands and channel all their Chikarda into Tick and trusting that he can use it to slice back into reality and allow them all to escape. Meanwhile Tick is probing through the far stretches of the universe with this new amount of energy seething inside his body and burning him from the inside out. He ignores this heat of energy and turns it into more fuel for the fire of power he’s using to probe through the universe. Suddenly he starts to feel a tingling in the universe and realizes that it’s a new reality but when he explored it through his mind’s eye it looked strange but it was better than anything in the Nonex, he focused the energy on the reality and on all 3 of them and winked them away.

I like the Author because of his creativity, he uses this creativity to create complex riddles and puzzles in this series. I rate this book an 8 out of 10 because of how interesting the plotline is.
