Unwind

The book Unwind by Neal Shusterman is about  a few characters story about running away. Unwind means someone’s parents sign something that is taking away basically everybody part because there parents don’t like them . Only can happen if the child is 18 or older. They can not be killed, only body parts can be taken away. So for this essay I will be focusing on the Character Connor. Connor is a teenagaer that his parents want him unwind.  So Connor has a plan, but does it work?

So Connor has a plan to run away, but not everything worked out for him! Connor hates his parents and his parents hate him. Connor’s parents want to unwind him so he sets a plan for himself and his friend Ariana to run away in the middle of the night. So Connor sneaks out in the middle of the night to go get Ariana. Connor tries to wake Arianna up and he finally does. Connor and Ariana had this whole plan that they would each take a bike from Ariana’s house and sneak off and never see their family again. After all the planning and talking Ariana wimps out and decides she want to stay with her family and live life normally. Connor was disappointed but it did not stop him from escaping. He followed his route that he had been planning for the journey that will change life. Connor escapes and his on his  way. He stops at a truck stop where he realizes cops are either surrounding him or someone else. Connor hides under one of the trucks for dear life. The cops were not after him. They were after another kid that ran away from his family. Connor was so scared.  Connor gets caught up and realizes he has to move spots, he makes a run for  truck and hides himself under a bed in a truck. Minutes later the door opens it was the truck river, he sees Connor. Connor thinks he’s in deep trouble but he’s not. The truck driver told all about himself and played cards with Connor. Connor was very fortunate and the truck driver let him sleep on one of the beds in the truck.

Connor woke up in the morning from the truck moving he was relieved. Later that morning Connor woke up from sirens. He looks out the window and the truck Driver (Josias Aldridge) was outside in cuffs.Connor panicked. The police saw Connor and followed him. Connor was off and had another life.

“ I’ll do anything you want” “  I will give you all I got” “ How much do you want” Connor said as he was trying to negotiate with the truck driver not to turn him in. This quote shows how desperate Connor was not to be turned in and to  be free. I like how desperate Connor is to be free and it shows how much he wants to go, I also like how  opening Connor is with his offers.

“I want to, I really, really want to…but I can’t” “so everything we talked about was a lie” “No it was a dream- reality took me away”  Back and forth Connor and Ariana talked. Ariana was trying to explain to Connor about running away. Ariana screwed up a chunk of Connor’s plan and Connor was mad. This quote shows how wanting and desperate Connor wanted Ariana to come with him, they had been planning for a really long time. I like how Ariana is standing up for herself and I also feel like Ariana tricked him.

“See, Dad my grades are getting better, I can even bring my science grade up to an A by the end of the semester”- “ Connor wanted his parents to suffer and let them know the terrible mistake they made”  Connor said to his father. Connor’s father was always telling that his grades stunk, so Connor wanted to prove him wrong. This quote shows how hard Connor was trying to be good and impress his dad. I like how Connor is trying to prove his parents wrong, that is the right thing to do, it adds tension to their relationship.

I choose this book because lots of people were reading it and when they were talking about it it sounded interesting. I really like the book I rate it a 10 out of 10. Unwind has great tension and is a great read.

  1. Dear Max,
This is a very well written letter essay. I like how you included the quote from Connor. I like how you analyzed it and said how desperate he was to make a deal with the truck driver so he won’t turn him in. One way to improve is to check your grammar.

  2. Max,
I really liked your essay. It was very well done. I liked the part where you talked about how he really wanted to prove his dad wrong. The only thing that I would suggest is to work on your grammar. I noticed a couple spots where you should do this.

  3. Max,
I really liked your letter essay. It was done very well. I liked how you put the dentition of a word in it. It was very helpful. One thing I would for next time is to indent when a new person is talking. Overall I think you did a good job. I can tell that you put a lot of time and effort into it.

  4. Max,
Your letter essay was very good. Specifically, your summary was very detailed and good. You put a lot of effort into it. Something you could do better is not put the heading when you are writing to the blog.

  5. Dear M-Greg,
Brilliant essay! I really enjoyed reading it. I really liked your summary. It was very descriptive. I’ve never read it, but your summary filled me in. I also liked how you added the explanation of why Connor wanted to prove his father wrong about his grades slipping. One thing I suggest is to check your grammar so that your essay looks clean and polished. Overall though, great job!
