Fault In Our Stars

Over the past week or so I have have recently finished reading Fault in Our Stars which consist of 317 pages. This book is considered to be realistic fiction, which was written by John Green. John Green is an American author, vlogger, producer actor, and editor this is incredible that he is all of these things. One reason, I have chosen to read this book because I have seen the movie and I really enjoyed the movie, so I thought I wouldemoji the book as well. The other reason I’ve chosen to choose this book is because when I read the summary I was very moved that it was about cancer and how she survives.

Throughout this book of Fault in Our Stars, the main character Hazel Grace Lancaster has cancer and her mother forces her to join a cancer group. After days of going to meetings one day a new boy catches her eye during one group. His name is Augustus Waters. At the end of a meeting he invites Hazel to his house for dinner and they start talking. Augustus is also a cancer patient but doesn’t have it anymore after amputating his leg. During their time of talking Augustus contacts Hazel’s favorite author just for her because of his book is how they connect. Weeks after Hazel’s lungs fill with fluid and has to go to the ICU. While she’s in the hospital Augustus refuses to leave but while Hazel is in the ICU he gets a scan and finds out his cancer has returned and spread everywhere. Which leads to complications that will change everything.

The main character Hazel of this book goes through many up and downs that are very different from most people. From the things she has to go through is incredible that she still is that strong. Her surgery’s only made her strong and made her understand the value of life even more. Understanding the value of life is very important especially for someone like her. Also through the connections she has with Augustus makes her evolve as a person.

I was very moved by the way they used cancer and the relationship between Augustus and Hazel. This is because Augustus and Hazel understood what each other were going through and how they needed to be there for each other through their ups and downs. Relationships are best when both people can understand each other. I was also

moved on how they used such a touching subject. Using such a touching subject made it a more emotional story that more people wanted to read. Many people can relate to the illness they both suffer through.

This book is realistic fiction and it’s one of my favorite genres. I really like realistic fiction because It can happen in real life which makes the story 100 times better that’s what I think. Especially with this story and it being about cancer really made it so much better to read about because it has more emotion to it. I think more emotion in a story makes a better story.

This scene is where Augustus waters tells Hazel that he loves her and it’s a very heartwarming scene. This is a very personal moment between the two characters.

“I’m in love with you,” he said quietly.

“Augustus,” I said.

“I am,” he said. He was staring at me, and I could see the corners of his eyes crinkling. “I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.” (pg. 213)

A couple of things I really enjoyed about this passage was that this was a big moment in their relationship and it was very emotional. When writing is more emotional I enjoy reading it more. Another thing I liked about this passage or quote was how the author wrote this especially because like I also said how John Green included so much emotion.

In my opinion, I would rate this book a 8 out of 10 because I really enjoyed the emotion throughout this story. Another reason I would rate this book an 8 is because I really liked the way the author wrote this book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who really likes sad stories or just wants a good read.

  6. Gia,

I really liked how you formatted your letter essay. It made it really easy to read and was different than most of the other letter essays I have written and have read. One thing that I would include is more quotes to make your claims more reasonable. Otherwise, good job!

    Sincerely,
