The Plane Ride

Before Corona got really big, I flew to Utah. I was actually very nervous about the flight because I obviously do not want corona. I told my parents that I was nervous about it. The decision had come down to whether or not the plane ride was worth it. I read many articles about corona to try to help myself feel better and to try and make the decision easier. After reading a few articles about corona and planes, I learned that you would be almost 100 percent safe if you sit in a window seat. My dad had gotten us aisle seats, which is where you are very likely to get it. I decided I wouldn’t go unless I could get a window seat. I didn’t want to make everything worse and cause problems, but safety does always come first, so that was where my mind had to be.

My dad stayed on the phone with JetBlue for a whole 30 minutes! I felt so bad that he had to go through all that extra work. But it really did just come down to safety first. So many people around the world were trying to call JetBlue because everyone wants to cancel their flights, which made it so hard to communicate with them. After over 30 minutes on the phone, my dad finally got a hold of JetBlue. My dad changed our seats to one window and one middle seat. I didn’t know this until the next morning because I was already asleep when Jet Blue finally answered their phone. I could tell how frustrated my dad was. I felt very bad and I was thinking that I should have just said I wouldn’t go in the first place. The thing is, that would have gotten him very upset because the two of us have been looking forward to the trip for so long.

I wish corona could just go away because it caused lots of problems with my Utah trip and it canceled my trip to the Grand Canyon, which I am so sad about. I also have a trip scheduled to London this summer with my friends from Israel. The trip is planned to be only a week after school ends, so I really hope that I will be able to go. I only get to see my friend from Israel about once a year when they come over the summer, so this will be a great chance to see her again for sure because I miss her a ton.

I kept hearing people at school talk about how air travel is a very bad idea right now and people said I would for sure get it, but I tried to ignore that and stay positive. The virus takes 2-14 days to kick in. My first airplane ride was 14 days ago and my other one was 10. I guess that means that I didn’t get it from the first plane ride, but who knows, I could have gotten in from the way home. I am just praying that I don’t have it.

  1. This has obviously changed everyone’s plans, Keira. I mean, even the Olympics have been postponed. Stay safe 🙂
